Experience

I’ve been teaching Spanish for over ten years and it is my passion. I believe I’m a strong teacher because I have unique insights. I spent half my life in South America so I’m completely fluent in Spanish. I’ve gained a lot of insight traveling the world with my military husband and I have first-hand knowledge of Latin American traditions and culture that I believe will greatly enhance your education. • I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Master’s Degree in Spanish. My experience includes working as an Adjunct Spanish Instructor at Johnson & Wales University, a Graduate Teaching Assistant, and Learning Center Tutor at UNC - Wilmington, a Spanish Language Instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College, as a Contracted Spanish Language Instructor for the U.S. Marine Corps Foreign Military Training Unit and the FBI. • My approach to teaching is a combination of traditional methods, such as face to face lecture and with Web-based content and instruction. I like also to combine my instruction with cultural insights and interesting discussion with an overall goal to make learning a positive and enjoyable experience. • Aditional references can be sent upon request.

Hobbies

I have several hobbies. I like to travel, to read Spanish and English Literature, to walk on the beach, to collect pictures and post cards, and to listen to music. Advice: When looking to hire a tutor, be picky and look for a teacher who has been around awhile and has good reviews/references. Set up an initial meeting to ensure the teacher is someone you will enjoy interacting with. Just because someone is fluent in Spanish doesn't mean they are good at teaching it. :)
